If Firefox no longer starts up after you installed an add-on, what you can do is start Firefox in safe mode and just disable that add on.

To do this, open up a console and run the following:

firefox -safe-mode

You’ll see the following dialog box:

Press the Continue in Safe Mode button. Once Firefox has started up, go to the Tools->Add-ons menu and disable the one you just installed. Click the Restart Firefox button, and it should start up fine again.

Remindr is an online service where you simply add what you need to do and when and how you want to be reminded. It supports twitter, jabber and email. And there’s no need to log in!

Royalty Free Clipart

Need some free clipart for your web site or presentation? Instead of sticking with the same old pictures that came with powerpoint, why not check out some fresh ones at WPClipart?

They have thousands of images, most of which are in PNG format. You can browse through the categories and find what you’re looking for, or you can download the whole collection.

If you have accidentaly (or stupidly :) ) changed the WordPress Address of your blog to an incorrect value, you’ll find out that you can no longer access the admin console to change it back. To fix it you have two options:

  • Temporary PHP change
  • Direct database change

Flash and the mobiles

The smartphone market is finally getting a full-fledged flash player. Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch demonstrated Flash 10 running on Nokia Series 60 (based on Symbian), Windows Mobile and even the Google Android platforms. There was a major but expected absentee … The iPhone.

While Adobe has a near complete version for the iPhone, it’ll probably never be released to the wild. The problem as some see it is that it is too close for comfort for Apple, providing a free application platform that would compete with the App Store. They would lose the tight control they have on what can be run on an iPhone, as well as losing the revenue stream from sales via the App Store.

Google have just released their own Web browser.  When they announced it via a set of comic strips, it took some people by surprise especially after the april fool stunt a couple of years ago. The comic strip itself tries to explain how the web has evolved and why we need a new browser to cater for that.

Mozilla Ubiquity

Mozilla Ubiquity is another little project in progress over at Mozilla Labs. It provides a command line interface to the web… well a very small part of it anyway. They released an early alpha version a couple of days ago so I thought I’ll give it a go.

It comes as a Firefox extension that currently works in Windows, OSX (requiring another software download) and partially in Linux. Once you’ve installed the extension you can press ctrl+space to call up a little console. Keep reading »
